Ulster Junior Championships 2008
The Ulster table tennis championships were held on Saturday at the Valley Leisure centre in Glengormley with Local players winning five out of the six junior titles.
Newmills Open
Polish Topspin aces Martin Wolczynski and Thomas Openchowski gave the crowds a final to remember at the Newmills Open, sponsored by Sammy Wright Tyres and Keith R Boyd Motor Engineers, in County Tyrone on Saturday at a tournament where Clogher young gun Ashley Robinson produced a stunning display, Gillian Richardson took the ladies title for her home club and the scratch pairing of Daryl Strong and “Fast Phil” Wallace proved to be in a class of their own in the doubles.
There was just no stopping the Chinese duo of Na Ning and Liu Na as they continued their domination of Irish tournaments with victories at a high quality Ulster Open in the Valley Leisure Centre on Saturday while Crossgar hotshot Paul McCreery gave the locals something to cheer about with a magnificent display and another teenager Claire Nelson (Belfast) also showed glimpses of brilliance by reaching four finals and winning a brace of titles in the process.
Fermanagh Open 2008
Oriental topspin wizard Na Ning braved the horrendous weather conditions to win the open singles title at the Fermanagh Open staged in the Lakeland Leisure centre, Enniskillen on Saturday.
County Antrim Open
There was just no stopping Newry Teacher Daryl Strong as he swept aside the opposition with relative ease at the County Antrim Open in Ballyclare High School on Saturday to win the main event while Jimmy Robinson (Craigavon) and Martin Pickles (Wolverhampton) also shone in the supporting classes. |
